After months of consistent pressure, a positive update!

reporting by James Kelley, Iowa Public Radio

At last night’s (Tuesday, February 10, 2026) Coralville city council work session, four of the five city councilors stated outright that they will vote to cancel our city’s contract with Flock and the mayor acknowledged this majority.

Work sessions are for council discussion (no voting takes place) so this will still need to be placed on the February 24 council agenda for a final vote but the commitment to canceling was clear enough that it included the Mayor Goodrich instructing City Attorney Olson to communicate to Flock the city‘s plans to cancel the contract.

This could still go in a number of different wild directions so please mark your calendars now to attend the February 24 6:30 pm council meeting where it is anticipated that the vote will take place.

Despite being public meetings, work sessions are not live streamed and video archived the way council meetings are but I will share the recording that a member of the public took of the meeting as soon as it becomes available this afternoon.

I will also share the video for the council meeting that preceded the work session as soon as the city uploads it to the website because many community members and councilors spoke beautifully in favor of the city canceling the contract with Flock.

No community members spoke in opposition to canceling the contract.

James Kelley with Iowa Public Radio does a tremendous job reporting on communities across eastern Iowa and we always appreciate so much the care that he takes in his work.
