The work continues

Mass AI surveillance has been a singular focus for me for many months but our recent victory in Coralville is the first that some are hearing about it.

There’s not one speck of shame in that. Everyone has full lives and important concerns. We don’t know what we don’t know.

If you want to start somewhere, I highly recommend the recent work by James Kelley at Iowa Public Radio, Paul Brennan at Little Village, and Nolan Craig and Gabby Drees at The Daily Iowan.

Now that you’re alert to this technology and its dangers, you’re going to start seeing it everywhere.

Ending the Flock contract only gets surveillance tracking off of city property. Many businesses in Coralville have them too.

Iowa City has had an ordinance against them since 2013 thanks to the diligent work of Iowa City residents but we currently have nothing like that in place here in Coralville.

We do immediately have one powerful tool at our disposal — Ireland’s greatest gift to the world, the boycott.

Stay tuned if you’d like to connect about how we work to keep each other safer.

We especially appreciate our friends who live elsewhere but who still see and understand how interconnected our communities are.

The work continues.
